In 2017, KNAAK+REICH project office was tasked with strengthening the structure of an underground car park and protecting it from further corrosion. To minimize the load on the approximately 1,600 m² area, a lightweight solution was essential. The project required in-situ concrete to create a protective layer over the steel girders and form a level road surface for coating.
Our solidian GRID was the perfect solution for this project. Its lightweight, non-corrosive properties and ability to minimize concrete cracks made it ideal. Traditional reinforced concrete would have resulted in a total thickness of 9.5 cm (2 cm bottom ledge, 2 cm reinforcement, and 5.5 cm concrete cover). Using carbon concrete with solidian GRID reduced this to just 4 to 5 cm (2 cm underneath strips, a few millimeters of carbon reinforcement, and 2 to 2.5 cm of concrete cover). This approach not only saved weight but also enhanced the durability and longevity of the car park structure.
